Microcurrent or microcurrent therapy is used within the beauty industry to offer a non invasive treatment that helps improve existing and prevent future signs of facial aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, loss of tone and flexibility.
Non surgical treatments can also be used on the body to re-train muscles, helping to lift and reshape the contours. Areas that respond particularly well are the stomach, breasts and buttocks.
Microcurrent Uses
Microcurrent therapy was first used in the medical sector for the rehabilitation of facial weakness as a result of Bell's Palsy or strokes. Microcurrent therapy can also be used for athletes who are suffering with muscle problems due to injury.
Since the early 1990's microcurrent therapy has been used successfully for cosmetic purposes and is particularly attractive to clients who do not wish to commit to more extreme treatments such as cosmetic surgery.
How Does Microcurrent Therapy Work?
As we age, many systems in the body gradually function less effectively, in the case of ageing the natural electrical impulses that carry messages from the brain to the muscles become less effective and the muscles fibres loose their natural tension gradually becoming more flaccid with time. The reduction in muscle support combined with negative changes in the skin tissue including reduced production of collagen and elastin which give the skin its structure and flexibility cause the production of wrinkles and loss of contour.
Does Microcurrent Therapy Hurt?
Due to the low levels of electricity used microcurrent therapy does not hurt, a client will only experience the pressure of the applicators selected to conduct the current.
How Long Does Microcurrent Therapy Take?
A single treatment will take approximately one hour. Many professionals recommend you have 2 – 3 treatments in the first couple of weeks, reducing this down to one treatment a week until you are happy with the results. To maintain the results after the course top up treatments are recommended every month.
How Long Will I Take To Recover From Microcurrent Therapy?
Due to the type of procedure that microcurrent therapy offers, a client can leave the salon immediately after the treatment has finished.
